Project Information
General
Our community is growing Lyons as a Pollinator-Friendly Town and Certified Bee City, Connecting Community and Pollinators
Beautifying Lyons through connected Pollinator Habitat Gardens, creating a Pollinator Corridor and Heatly ecosystem for our pollinators and families using clean and regenerative gardening practices.
The Art Competition: The Confluence of art and activism
Elevating the project with an inspiring art piece igniting the fire of passion in our community to actively support our pollinators through pollinator habitat gardens, educational events, neighborly discourse, and community collaborations. Let's Bee the change and the example to the nation of what a bee-utiful Colorado Pollinator Friendly Town can bee.
Reason
Department of Wildlife study has shown our Colorado pollinators are threatened by habitat loss and pesticides and herbicides/ kill-acides
By bringing nature back home, we help pollinators and enrich the lives of our families
Of the 1008 native bees in Colorado, the smallest ones can only fly 3 houses down before they need to refuel
Pollinators support all the flowering plant life, which supports all our wildlife, from birds to bears to human Bee-ings.
Goal
The goal of the Lyons Pollinators in our Backyard Art Contest is to cultivate a sense of place, pride, and purpose in our town by connecting creativity with conservation. Through art, we aim to:
- Inspire community members of all ages to learn about and support pollinators
- Celebrate Lyons as a designated Bee City and beacon for pollinator habitat restoration
- Spark conversations and connections around ecological stewardship
- Highlight the importance of native bees and habitat connectivity in a changing climate
- Showcase the talent and passion of local artists while weaving pollinator awareness into the cultural fabric of Lyons
